By winning the $100,000 Theodora A. Randolph stakes, Gold Charm is back in title picture

Irv Naylor’s Gold Charm, the National Steeplechase Assocition’s leading filly or mare in 2024, won for the sixth time in her last seven outings with an off-the-pace victory in the Grade 2 distaff stake.

Trained by Cyril Murphy and ridden by Jamie Bargary, the seven-year-old Irish-bred trailed by more than 30 lengths at one point, as Mark Buyck’s Encosta (Bernie Dalton) set a torrid pace. Heading through the final turn, Gold Charm began her advance and took aim at the new leader, Runnymoore Racing’s Timeto Shine (dan Nevin), the slight betting favorite, seizing the lead and drawing off handily by 2 3/4 lengths. Paul and Molly Willis, Dark Horse Racing, Atlantic Friends Racing, and The International Venture’s Anoint (Stephen Mulqueen) was far back in third.

With the win, Gold Charm raised her career earnings to more than $350,000. Since joining the NSA fin 2023 following a European campaign, the daughter of Golden Horn has made a dozen starts, with seven wins (six stakes), one second, and two thirds. After winning the Margaret Currey Henley at Iroquois in 2025, she went to the sidelines for a year before returning in this year’s Henley, finishing fourth.

The Randolph is the first of a new three-leg $100,000 filly and mare stakes series at Colonial known as the “Triple Tiara,”

which also includes The Life’s Illusion on July 23 and Marion duPont Scott on Sept. 3.
